A Moment A Day Monthly Vlog | January 2016

As a freelance animator/illustrator, it often feels like a day goes by way too fast (especially when I’m fully immersed in a project and the only thing running through my mind is the looming deadline! >.< ).

Work takes up most of the day and—when unavoidable—well into the night. Then when the project is finished and the deadline passes, here comes another one and the cycle continues.

One moment you’re watching fireworks, sipping wine, and celebrating the new year, and the next thing you know you’re right smack in the middle of February!

Oftentimes when we look back it feels like nothing happens in our lives, when in reality we’re just forgetting the small moments that led to the more significant days (like the preparation before a party, or the struggle before a project is finished, and so on.)

That’s why for this year I decided to try out a little project: I’ll be filming a few seconds of my life each day, then compile them into a monthly vlog!

A moment a day

I found this idea from the Vimeo Weekend Project newsletter years ago, except their version is One Second A Day. The problem I found with some of the One Second A Day videos is that only the people who made the vlog (and their friends and relatives) know what’s going on in the video, which is why I changed the concept up a bit and focused more on being able to tell a story regardless of the length of the daily video. I also added some captions and animation to make it a bit more “me” 😀

I was inspired to vlog by the AWESOME YouTube vlogger Casey Neistat, and now that I’m putting more effort on my YouTube channel (Subscribe! 😉 ), what better time to start than this year?

Making a commitment to shoot a video everyday taught me to be more appreciative and conscious of each day.

I actively try to find something in my day that I can film, and when nothing particularly interesting has happened, I’d pause and create a moment—usually with this cat:

My January was mostly spent working on a couple of animated projects, and I’m glad I was able to capture the early sketches, the slow and steady progress on the animation, the coffee, and the “Keep Calm and Stay Positive” glass my mom gave for Christmas (which I’d stare at when I’m feeling overwhelmed).

I hope you enjoy watching this vlog! Perhaps it can inspire you to document each day in your own special way!

Now You Turn!
